In October, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) and its Roundtable on Value and Science-Driven Health Care released Patient-Clinician Communication: Basic Principles and Expectations, the inaugural discussion paper from IOM. More than 20 organizations have signed on to support the paper, including ONS.
We’re pleased to announce that, in 2012, the ONS National Election will be going green. During the 2011 ONS Mentorship/Leadership Weekend, the ONS Nominating Committee and the ONS Board of Directors discussed the format of how the national election process takes place. Previously, members could either vote online or request a paper ballot for voting. Based on usage trends of the paper ballot system, feedback from ONS members, trends from other associations, and increasing costs, for the first time, the 2012 ballot will be electronic only.
Reaching student nurses with our message is easy through the many social media options available. Through videos from real oncology nurses on the ONS YouTube channel, ONS public relations has helped to promote oncology as a nursing specialty in a very visible and sometimes entertaining way. The highly successful “Why I Love Oncology Nursing” video contest held during Oncology Nursing Month earlier this year resulted in some wonderful and creative submissions. If you’re ever having a bad day, take a few minutes to watch any one of these videos, and you’ll remember why you do what you do.
