As I review the 2011 year-end activity by your ONS Board of Directors, I remember my mother saying, “Good better best, never let it rest. ‘Til the good is better, and the better, best.” One could ask, “How is the Board helping to move ONS toward ‘best’?” Take a look at the highlights below from the October–December 2011 Board meetings.

I bet you haven’t noticed that ONS tries to limit how much e-mail and mail you receive from the Society. The reason? To encourage you to check it out when it comes. For example, there are new awards that need nominees. This year award winners will receive travel funds and recognition during Congress. So please pass it forward and nominate a deserving oncology nurse.
When the ONS Board of Directors asks members to “tell it like it is,” we mean active communication between the membership and the Board. This thoughtful sharing helps to ensure a healthy and productive organization by meeting our members’ needs for transforming the care of their patients.
It’s time to begin talking about the new strategic plan for ONS for 2012–2016. Your first question might be, “Why does ONS need a strategic plan?” And the logical follow-up question could be, “Why does it need to change?” Finally, you may ask, “What does this mean for the membership?”
